Choose the KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC if you already ride on two wheels and want to ride alone: AED 850 per dirt bike for 1 hour, AED 1,250 for 2 hours, AED 1,450 for 3 hours. Choose a self-drive dune buggy if you are new to off-road or want to share: from AED 600 per buggy for 30 minutes.
Key takeaways
- The KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC is a guided session for one rider, priced per dirt bike: 1 hour AED 850, 2 hours AED 1,250, 3 hours AED 1,450.
- Dirt bike riders need some two-wheel riding experience. Complete beginners are pointed to a buggy or a quad instead.
- Self-drive dune buggies are priced per buggy, not per person, and come in 30 minute, 1 hour and 2 hour sessions only.
- A 2 seater buggy carries the driver and one passenger, a 4 seater the driver and three, all for the one price.
- The buggies are automatic, so there is no clutch and no gears to change, and a guide rides ahead for the whole ride.

- Closed-toe shoes are required for every ride. Sandals and flip-flops are not allowed.
Dirt bike or dune buggy in Dubai: the short answer
The choice comes down to three questions. Have you ridden a motorbike or dirt bike before? Do you want to ride alone or share the experience with someone beside you? And how long do you want to be out on the sand?
If you have two-wheel experience, enjoy balancing a bike through soft ground and are happy to ride solo, the KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC is the more physical and more personal option. You are the only person on the machine, and the session is guided.
If you have never ridden off-road, want to bring a partner, friends or family along in the same vehicle, or simply prefer four wheels, a roll cage and a harness, a self-drive dune buggy is the easier fit. You steer, press the throttle and brake, and the automatic gearbox does the rest.
Both run on private desert terrain outside Dubai, both start at the same times of day, and neither includes hotel pickup in its price. The sections below cover the details that usually decide it.
How much does a dirt bike cost in Dubai?
The KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC is priced per dirt bike, for one rider. There are three session lengths:
| KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC (guided) | Price per dirt bike, one rider |
|---|---|
| 1 hour | AED 850 |
| 2 hours | AED 1,250 |
| 3 hours | AED 1,450 |
The dirt bike is the only ride in this comparison with a 3 hour option. It has no 30 minute session, so the shortest dirt bike booking is 1 hour.
Most first-timers on the KTM find 1 hour plenty. Riding a dirt bike on sand asks a lot of your arms, legs and core, and an hour of it is a full workout for most people. The 2 and 3 hour sessions suit riders who already spend time on dirt bikes at home and want a longer stretch in the desert.
You can see the session details and pick a length on the KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC page.
How much does a dune buggy cost in Dubai?
Every buggy is self-drive and priced per buggy. A 2 seater carries the driver and one passenger, and a 4 seater carries the driver and three passengers, all for the one price. There are four models, each in 2 seat and 4 seat versions:
| Buggy (self-drive) | 30 min | 1 hour | 2 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 Seater Polaris Dune Buggy RZR 1000 CC | AED 600 per buggy | AED 900 per buggy | AED 1,750 per buggy |
| 4 Seater Polaris Dune Buggy RZR 1000 CC | AED 800 per buggy | AED 1,200 per buggy | AED 2,200 per buggy |
| 2 Seater Polaris Dune Buggy RZR 1000 CC Turbo | AED 900 per buggy | AED 1,200 per buggy | AED 2,200 per buggy |
| 4 Seater Polaris Dune Buggy RZR 1000 CC Turbo | AED 1,200 per buggy | AED 2,150 per buggy | AED 3,975 per buggy |
| 2 Seater Can-Am Maverick X3 | AED 999 per buggy | AED 1,499 per buggy | AED 2,800 per buggy |
| 4 Seater Can-Am Maverick X3 | AED 1,200 per buggy | AED 1,950 per buggy | AED 3,800 per buggy |
| 2 Seater Can-Am Maverick X3 RS TURBO RR | AED 1,200 per buggy | AED 2,300 per buggy | AED 4,200 per buggy |
| 4 Seater Can-Am Maverick X3 RS TURBO RR | AED 1,400 per buggy | AED 2,700 per buggy | AED 5,200 per buggy |
Buggies come in 30 minute, 1 hour and 2 hour sessions only. There is no 15 minute buggy ride and no 3 hour buggy ride, so if you want to be out for longer than 2 hours, the KTM is the only ride here that offers it.
The dune buggy Dubai page shows all eight buggies side by side if you want to compare the models in more detail.

Can beginners ride a dirt bike in Dubai?
The KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC suits riders with some two-wheel experience. Complete beginners are pointed to a buggy or a quad instead.
The reason is simple. A dirt bike stays upright only through the rider's balance, throttle control and body position, and soft sand makes all three harder than on a road or a track. Someone who has never ridden a motorbike spends most of a first session just trying to stay up, which is not much fun and not a good way to see the desert.
If you have ridden a motorbike or a dirt bike before, you have the basics the KTM needs. Riders who have done some two-wheel riding but not much on sand usually find a 1 hour session the right first step.
If you are not sure whether your experience counts, describe it to the team when you book. They will tell you honestly whether the KTM makes sense or whether a buggy would give you a better day.
Dune buggy or dirt bike for first timers?
For a first-timer with no riding background, a dune buggy is the clear choice. Here is why it is easier to start with:
- The buggies are automatic, so there is no clutch and no gears to change. You use the steering wheel, the throttle and the brake.
- You sit inside a roll cage, held in by harnesses, with a helmet and goggles on. You do not have to balance anything.
- Every buggy ride starts with a safety briefing on the controls, hand signals and the convoy order. With the walkaround of the machine it usually takes 10 to 15 minutes.
- A guide rides ahead of the buggies for the whole ride and sets the pace for the least experienced driver, so nobody is sent off alone.
- No driving licence is needed for a buggy, because rides run on private desert terrain, not public roads.
Buggy drivers are adults and carry photo ID. Children ride as passengers beside an adult.
If a first-timer wants something closer to the feel of a bike without the balance challenge, a quad bike is the other route the team suggests. Quads are a separate topic with their own range of machines, so this guide keeps them to this one mention.
Who suits the KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC?
The dirt bike fits a fairly specific kind of rider. It usually suits you if:
- You have some two-wheel riding experience and want to use it on sand.
- You want a machine to yourself rather than sharing a seat.
- You enjoy a physical ride where your body position matters as much as the throttle.
- You want a longer session, since the KTM is the only ride here with a 3 hour option.
It is less suited to you if you have never ridden on two wheels, if you want to bring a passenger, or if you want a calm, scenic drive where you can chat to the person next to you.
The dirt bike Dubai page collects everything about the KTM in one place, including what to expect before the session starts.
Who suits a self-drive dune buggy?
A buggy is the broader option. It usually suits you if:
- You have no off-road experience, or little of it.
- You want to share the ride with a partner, a friend or family members.
- You prefer four wheels, a roll cage and a harness to balancing a bike.
- You want a shorter taste of the desert, since buggies start at 30 minutes.
The 2 seater works for couples and pairs of friends. The 4 seater suits families and small groups, with one driver and three passengers in the same buggy. If more than one person in the group wants to drive, a second buggy is a separate booking at its own price.
Within the buggy range, the Polaris RZR 1000 CC is the starting point on price, and the Turbo, the Can-Am Maverick X3 and the Can-Am Maverick X3 RS TURBO RR step up from there. The choice of model is a separate decision from the dirt bike or buggy question, and the prices in the table above show where each one sits.
Can a group mix a dirt bike and a dune buggy?
Yes. A common setup is one experienced rider on the KTM while the rest of the group takes a buggy. Each is a separate booking with its own price and unit:
- The KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC is booked per dirt bike, for one rider.
- The buggy is booked per buggy, for the driver and its passengers.
For example, a family of four might book the KTM for the parent who rides motorbikes, and a 4 Seater Polaris Dune Buggy RZR 1000 CC for the others. The KTM booking is priced per dirt bike and the buggy booking per buggy, and each one is paid on its own.
Session lengths differ between the two, so think about timing. The shortest dirt bike session is 1 hour, while a buggy can be 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours. If you want everyone finishing around the same time, a 1 hour or 2 hour buggy matches a dirt bike session of the same length. Mention when booking that the two bookings belong to one group, and ask the team how the start times can line up.
What is included, and what should you wear?
Included with every buggy ride:
- A helmet and goggles for each rider
- Fuel
- A safety briefing
- A guide
- Unlimited mineral water
Each buggy also has a roll cage and harnesses.
For the dirt bike, every rider wears a helmet. Ask the team when you book about anything else that comes with the KTM session, so you know exactly what to bring.
Whatever you choose, closed-toe shoes are required. Sandals and flip-flops are not allowed. Beyond that, practical clothing you do not mind getting sandy is the sensible choice: comfortable trousers or shorts, a light top, and sunglasses for the drive to and from the site. Leave anything loose or valuable in the car or at your hotel.
How long should you book?
On the dirt bike, most first-timers find 1 hour plenty. It is enough time to settle onto the machine, get a feel for the sand and ride a good stretch of desert. The 2 hour and 3 hour sessions are there for riders who already ride dirt bikes regularly and know they want more time in the saddle.
On a buggy, 30 minutes gives a short taste, 1 hour is a comfortable first ride for most people, and 2 hours is the longest buggy session available. Plan for about 90 minutes on site for a 30 minute buggy ride: check-in, signing the liability form, fitting the helmet and goggles, the briefing, the drive and the photo stop on a ridgeline.
For a closer look at how each buggy session length feels in practice, see the guide to which dune buggy ride length to book.
When do rides start?
Buggies, quads and the dirt bike start every 30 minutes from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM, daily. That gives a wide choice of start times, from an early morning ride to a late afternoon one.
October to April is the main season. In summer, the site points riders to the earliest morning slots, so if you are visiting then, plan around an early start.
Early slots also leave the rest of the day open, which helps on a short trip. If you are pairing the ride with other plans, pick the start time first and build the day around it.
Getting there: transfers and the meeting point
No buggy, quad or dirt bike price includes pickup. You have three ways to get there:
- Sharing transfer: AED 175 per person, for two or more guests from one pickup point.
- Private car: AED 450 for 5 to 6 guests.
- Meet on site: the location is emailed after booking.
With a transfer, pickup is 1 hour before the start time, so a 9:00 AM ride means a pickup at 8:00 AM. Add the transfer when you book so the pickup time is set against your ride.
If your group is mixing a dirt bike and a buggy, the transfer is booked separately from the rides, so ask for one transfer that covers the whole group. The guide to dune buggy transfers and hotel pickup explains how the pickup works in more detail.
Health and the health declaration
Dune driving is physical, and riding a dirt bike on sand is even more so. Riders with back or neck conditions, recent surgery or a pregnancy should not drive a buggy, and the same caution applies to the dirt bike.
This guide gives no medical advice. If you have any health condition, see a doctor before booking and ask whether a ride like this is right for you. Then tell the team about it when you book, so they know before the day.
Booking, payment and cancellation
Payment is by Visa or Mastercard in AED, in full when booking online, with no card processing fee. The booking confirmation arrives by email.
Cancellation depends on the size of the booking:
- Bookings of fewer than 4 guests: cancel 96 hours or more before departure for no fee, refunded less a 5% processing fee. At least 48 hours before, a 50% fee applies. Under 24 hours, the fee is 100%.
- Bookings of 4 or more guests: cancel 7 days before departure for a 50% fee. At 5 days or less before departure, the fee is 100%.
Refunds go to the original card within 7 to 10 business days. Cancellations are by email only, and the time the email arrives sets the fee. Moving to another date carries no fee, subject to availability. If the team cancels for weather, guests get a refund less 5% or a new date.
The full terms are on the cancellation policy page.
A simple way to decide
If you are still unsure, run through these questions in order:
- Have you ridden on two wheels before? If not, choose a buggy.
- Do you want a passenger with you? If yes, choose a buggy, 2 seater for one passenger or 4 seater for three.
- Do you want more than 2 hours on the sand? If yes, and you have two-wheel experience, the KTM offers a 3 hour session.
- Is this a group with mixed experience? Put the experienced rider on the KTM and the rest in a buggy, as separate bookings.
Visitors without a riding background are better suited to a buggy, and riders who already know their way around a dirt bike tend to enjoy the KTM. Neither is the wrong answer, as long as it matches your experience.
In short
The KTM Dirt Bike 450 CC is a guided, one-rider session for people with some two-wheel experience, at AED 850 per dirt bike for 1 hour, AED 1,250 for 2 hours and AED 1,450 for 3 hours. A self-drive dune buggy suits first-timers and anyone sharing the ride, from AED 600 per buggy for 30 minutes, in 30 minute, 1 hour and 2 hour sessions. Both start every 30 minutes from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and transfers are booked separately.
